You can just be a girl if you want. It’s okay. Or a boy, or something else, or no gender at all. You’re not too old, or too young, or too much, or not enough, or trespassing, or appropriating, or causing trouble. It’s okay. Really.
The important thing is: do what you want, not what you think you’re allowed. Find the joy and follow that. You can experiment and you can change your mind. That’s okay too.
If you don’t use content warnings or persistently boost posts without them then I will not be following you. Things that need content warnings include:
- transphobia, sexism, ableism
- bulling or abuse
- climate doom
- politics
- mental health, suicide
- bad news in general
I’d prefer content warnings on, food, alcohol, and pics with eye contact because I can’t boost them to my followers. The same goes for images with no description
trans feelings, hindsight (1/n)
It’s true for some people, but I didn’t “always know” I was trans. With hindsight, though, there’s stuff I missed, or ignored, or explained away over the years that I can interpret as trans feelings now, and I think it might be helpful to write about that. There’ll be a little biography involved but I’ll try to keep it to a minimum.
“Speak calmly, they said.
Show confidence.
Do not blink.
If you blink, she will know.
If you blink, she will move from 1 to 1.5 meters away to much closer, so close that you can hear the whisper of what is in her headphones.
That is much too close.”
Struck by how many young women I’ve seen on the tube wearing AirPods Max, specifically. It’s a reminder that tube users are famously one of the most affluent demographics in London, of course, but I’m guessing the real attraction is the combination of “transparency mode” and “obvious visual sign that I’m not listening”
adhd meds, GP attitudes
Looking at the “as prescribed by psychiatry service” on my printed prescription, it occurs to me my GP practice has felt distinctly passive-aggressive about this all along. And in a way I didn’t notice with hrt, even when it was shared care with a private clinic
more coffee shop overhearings
Luton is good because you can dial in and turn off the AC on the shop floor. But the toilets in Swindon have better lighting

uk trans stuff (+ for once)
Relieved to see that the outcome of Lister v New College Swindon was dismissed this week by the Employment Tribunal. (Lister = teacher dismissed for not using a student's pronouns and chosen name, claiming this dismissal was religious/belief discrimination.)
I expect more analysis soon, but for those of us who are HR/legal nerds, here's the judgment.

ETA: blanket CW, but also that the Claimant goes full Godwin's law, btw.
Waiting out the rain in a coffee shop where a car mechanic with a beard and extensive arm tattoos is delivering an uninterrupted monologue on many good qualities of his job at an indifferent barista
Today’s card is the Three of Cups. It’s a day to celebrate your friends and what they mean to you: their achievements, great or small; the things about them you appreciate; the difference they make to your life. It doesn’t have to be a big performance - friends understand - but it’s good to show appreciation and to accept it

> I don't usually venture down this far along the footpath, as the visibility is nigh non-existent, as far as the buns go - they're all along the line of the footpath, but there's a good thicket between walkers and buns, making photography all but impossible.
>
> So it was with a sense of absolute delight that I caught sight of one bun, nestled within the twigs and branches, and very, very carefully raised the camera up (it's difficult to be discreet about a 300mm f/4 lens on a DSLR =:), and tried to focus manually as well as I could, given the AF system, understandably, had no idea of just what I was aiming at, with so much in the way.

> I remain very happy that I was able to capture such a candid moment from their life. I hope I didn't worry them overly.
