Hmm.
I don't think I can go back to Mastodon, but my followers are going to get more annoyed with me the more I use Friendica. Someone just @'ed me saying "those big reply-all threads really need to get reigned in," so... Between that and really needing private posts, I don't think I can stay here.
I think maybe I should just leave fedi so I have no temptation to get emotionally invested in its discourse. But at the same time it's hard for me to withdraw my investment in fedi, especially with so many friends. I'm in a bit of a pickle here.
I guess I could create yet another new main account. See how that goes.

!Friendica Support It seems that when i make a private post, Misskey/Calckey clients interpret it as a group DM to all of my followers. This makes it somewhat uncomfortable to post "private" here, because there's a strong chance every one of my followers gets pinged, resulting in more attention, when the whole point was to attract less.
Should this be reported as a bug against Friendica? Or is it a problem on Misskey's end? Or is there a Friendica setting to mitigate this? Either way, it might make me have to move accounts again, to a Misskey, Pleroma, or Mastodon fork, to avoid this. Or simply use a private account there.

Concerning the permissions: Many ActivityPub systems only know:
- Public
- Unlisted (but public)
- Private (to followers)
- DM
We support all of these but we also support private posts to selected accounts. This will most likely be displayed as "private (to followers)" on these systems, since they only know these 4 options. In my tests a reply on my posts only was sent to me directly, not to my followers. And my reply to such a post was directed to the original group. So from a privacy perspective it should be fine. But it would be great if the remote systems could handle it in a better way to avoid confusion.

I think the slogan is more aimed at like... if some random dillweed is posting cringe in your mentions, you don't actually have to engage them, you can just block and move on
If it's someone you know and have a relationship with then I think I'd probably ask what's up first yeah

Are there any good multi-account Matrix clients for Linux and Android? I've been thinking of getting a second Matrix account since my current account is heavily tied to my "worksona", and the username is related to my legal name which some people are uncomfortable with knowing, but I don't want to lose that account.
I have noticed that FluffyChat on Android can manage more than one account, but what about Linux clients?
(do boost!)

I am surprised someone made a whole website for this but hey, it's an important rule of netiquette
Maybe saying "hi" is okay if you don't care what response you get and have nothing specific you want to ask or discuss, but if you do have something to ask or discuss, just lead with that

You're not a failure, according to the laws of nature.
For every day that you live, you're progressing through life. And that is what matters the most in nature.
Society can go fuck itself, thats a stupid human made construct made by corrupt people.

@woozle i’ve been trying to convince my friends to use threema but nobody wants to pay for an app, and you still need to put it on the phone first.
when i finally got a smartphone in like 2012, i thought we‘d finally have everything that runs on the computer in the pocket. i surely did not expect the shift to smartphones to end up causing a limitation to what you can access with a computer 😒
I use Firefox for everything, so... yeah.
I think we all know most of why it sucks so much. Follow the money... 😕
sometimes I wonder how the average person I run into sees me. are they amused, or disgusted? do they think I'm unhinged, or just normal?
it's hard to see me as normal when i have an accent from nowhere, stim visibly all the time, walk without much awareness of space, and often neglect "self-care". but i don't dress conspicuously, and i speak rather agreeably and intelligibly, so i could pass as normal.

Thanks for the list!

Damn, I forgot! Will have to add it tomorrow.
IIRC, BookWyrm doesn't count as free software by most definitions due to its restrictions on business use, but I don't particularly care about those, so I'll happily add it with a note tomorrow.

These and other alternative FEs to proprietary services are catalogued and redirected to at farside.link/ !
Alternative FEs to proprietary services are often subject to rate-limiting, outright blocking etc, and instances come and go. If you want to share e.g. Twitter content you can share a link to farside.link/nitter/npettiaux/… and it will redirect to that post on a Nitter instance detected as up.
